Kyrgyzstan reaps over 1 mln tons of grain

Over one million tons of grain has been reaped in Kyrgyzstan, press service of the Kyrgyz government reported with reference to the Agriculture, Water and Processing Industry Ministry, "24.kg" reported.

According to the ministry, grain crops have been harvested at 66 percent of areas (348 thousand hectares) as of August 19, 2009. The crop yield averaged to 29.8 centners per ha, that is 8 centners more, compared to 2008. Productivity of wheat came to 30.4 centners per ha (7.1 centners more than in the same period of 2008), and barley - to 28 centners per ha (10.2 centners more than in 2008).

The gross grain yield made up 1.35.1 million tons (245.6 thousand tons more, comparing with the same period of 2008). As of August 19, 2009 farmers have reaped about 804.3 thousand tons of wheat (189.5 thousand tones more than in 2008) and 230.8 thousand tones of barley (56.1 tons more, compared to 2008).

Preliminary balance of wheat and products of its processing all over Kyrgyzstan shows that grain reserves exceed its amount as of August 2008 by 210 thousand tones making up 610.5 thousand tones.
