Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia mull North-South project

Iran hosted a meeting of Azerbaijani, Russian and Iranian railway workers under the Rasht-Astara (Iran)-Astara (Azerbaijan) project in the framework of the North-South transport corridor, the Mehr news agency reported.

Iranian State Railway Administration International Relations Director Abbas Nazari said the railway will be laid along 175 kilometers, including 168 kilometers in Iran and seven kilometers in Azerbaijan.

During the two-day meeting, the sides discussed the initial version of the BOT contracts to be used in the construction, he said.

Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan are likely to establish a joint company to lay the railroad, Nazari saidm adding that the studies on the railway construction have almost completed.
