Agriculture production increases by 3.5 percent

In 2009, total agricultural production increased by 3.5 percent including plant growing production by four percent, cattle-breeding production by 2.8 percent, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee reported.
As of Jan. 1, grains and legumes collections reached 2,988,300 tons which is 19.6 percent higher than in 2008. The crop was harvested from 1.125 million hectares of land.
Of the total harvested crop, 71.7 percent fell to grain, and 5.1 percent to corn.
In 2009, cotton production fell by 44.2 percent to 30,900 tons due to the reduction of sown areas by 21,100 hectares compared to 2008.
Tobacco production increased by five percent to 2,600 tons.
In 2009, Azerbaijan received 182,300 tons of beets from 7.6 thousand hectares territory's sowing. Sugar production declined by 5.7 percent or 11,000 tons in 2008
In 2009, total volume of collected fruits and berries hit 721,400 tons including 129,200 tons of grapes.
In 2009, fruits and berries production increased by 1.2 percent and grapes by 11.5 percent compared to 2008.
Green tea production increased by 38.3 percent to 447 tons.
In 2009, Azerbaijani produced 305,100 tons of meat, 1,433,100 tons of milk, 1,209,400 units of eggs and 15,300 tons of wool. Meat production increased by 0.8 percent, milk by 3.7 percent, eggs by 9.8 percent and wool by 3.3 percent compared to 2008.
Poultry factories produced eggs by 9.4 percent to 565.4 million.
