FATF delegation arrives in Turkmenistan

A delegation of Financial Action Task Force on money laundering (FATF) headed by Daniel Glaser Deputy Finance Minister arrived in Ashgabat.

According to Turkmen Government, the group also includes representatives of Russia, China and the Confederation of Switzerland.

The delegation held a series of meetings in the country's Majlis (Parliament) and a number of departments - the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank and the Turkmen General Prosecutor's Office.

The information says that, during the meetings necessity for further consolidation of joint efforts to combat threats and challenges of the time was underlined.

"The meetings forced on implementation of the national legislative base of international norms and standards," said in the information.

FATF includes 31 states. The FATF has received support from the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and others.

In 2009, Turkmenistan adopted a law on "Combating Laundering (Legalization) of Proceeds from Crime and Financing of Terrorism,".

Turkmenistan is also a member of the European Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG).
