Georgia, Tbilisi, May 18 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia /

A bypass railway construction project can be under failure. Such kind of statement was voiced in the non-government sector. According to NGO "Green alternative", "Georgian Railways" has not provided an assessment of the impact of the implementation of the project on the environment. Accordingly, there is no permit for construction.

According to the statement of the organization's representative Irakli Macharashvili, international financial institutions will not disregard such violations. He asserts that neither the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, nor the European Investment Bank will approve such a defective project. Therefore, it is possible that they will suspend funding.

According to Macharashvili, agreement on the allocation of 100 million euros was drew up with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in March of 2009, and the document is still not drew up with the European Investment Bank.

The project will be implemented by the Georgian-Chinese consortium, which won an international tender in April. Within the project 19 bridges and five tunnels will be built. Construction should begin in late May and be completed in three years. Project costs 170 million euros, but the tender was announced for 200 million euros.
