Vehicles imported to Azerbaijan will be tested in special centers after the introduction of restrictions on the importation of vehicles not conforming to Euro-2 standard, Azerbaijani State Standardization, Metrology and Patents Committee' Technical Regulation and Standardization Department head Sabig Abdullayev said.

"The vehicles should pass tests in the relevant accredited testing centers," Abdullayev said. .

He said the laboratory-centers may operate at the State Traffic Police Department and Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, as well as private. The main requirement is that they should pas accreditation. The State Standardization, Metrology and Patents Committee acts as an accreditation body, which will determine whether one or another laboratory may conduct tests on these standards.

"This laboratory can be private and, more importantly is that is should be accredited. Laboratory gives results and on the basis of this a certificate of compliance issued to it," Abdullayev said.

Azerbaijan will introduce a new standard for emissions of pollutants by motor means July 1. In particular, the country will ban imports of vehicles not meeting the standards Euro-2 since this period. The State Committee has already prepared technical standards of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere by motor means and agreed with all relevant government agencies. This standard will be adopted by the end of next week.
