Azerbaijani Railways continues to restore railway bed southward

CJSC Azerbaijani Railways continues to restore railway bed on the route Shirvan-Astara, places closed in order to eliminate the consequences of the disaster as a result of flooding in Kur and Araz rivers' banks, CJSC Azerbaijan Railways chief engineer Gurban Nazirov ssaid July 22.  Movement on this direction has been suspended since May 9 and resumed in early July, but with the speed limit.

According to Nazirov, under reconstruction works rehabilitation operations and works to establish a communication system are underway. "But the movement of goods to Iran and passenger traffic to Astara are resumed ", Nazirov stressed.

As reported earlier, the company planned to build two 133 meter bridge, install topsides (rails, sleepers, fixers and ballast), liquidate drawdown on the 23-kilometer stretch, lay six passages of water pipes with a length of 10.5 meters and a diameter of 1.78 meters. A 38-km-cable-connection, two kilometers from the signal cables and eight kilometers of overhead lines and other work will be replaced.
