The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee will perform upgrades to protect economic interests on the Caspian Sea, Chairman and Customs Service Lieutenant-General Aydin Aliyev told Trend today.

"The administration has failed to act due to a lack of boats. Today, we are holding a presentation of three modern boats and 42 cars for the first time," Aliyev said.

He added that these are contemporary boats used by the border and customs authorities in Nordic countries.

The length of each boat is 16 meters with a deadweight of five tons and a speed of 42 knots.

"The main purpose of acquiring the boats is to carry out operational activities against smuggling at sea," Aliyev said.

Each boat is equipped with the necessary equipment to identify illegal movement at sea and accommodates 16 people along with the crew.
