Astana - Almaty high-speed railway line can pass through Lake Balkhash

Kazakhstan considers the ambitious project of a high-speed railway line Astana - Almaty. It is likely to pass through Lake Balkhash, president of Kazakhstan temir zholy Askar Mamin said at the presentation of the project.

"The most preferable version is passing through the Lake Balkhash. It is still a preliminary draft. Feasibility study will be carried out till late 2011," he said.
The agreement on construction of a high-speed railway line between Astana and Almaty, was reached during the visit of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to China in February.

According to the Chinese side, the total length of the construction of a double track section will hit 1,050 kilometers, he said.

More than 50 industrial objects are planned to be built.
The world's best technologies will be applied.

"It is assumed that these conditions will improve mobility of the population and increase passenger traffic on high-speed lines up to 5 million people a year by attracting passengers from alternative knds of transport," Kazakhstan temir zholy told Trend.

China puts forward the most ambitious plans for the development of high-speed highways.

The Chinese government intends to build 16,000 kilometers of high-speed roads. Chinese manufacturers of high-speed trains are very active abroad. They have already won contracts in Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
