Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, March 17 / Trend H. Hasanov /
A Turkmen delegation has departed for Sofia to take part in a Turkmen-Bulgarian intergovernmental economic cooperation commission meeting on March 16-19.
The commission was established during Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov's official visit to Ashgabat in December 2008 to develop a further partnership in the energy, transport, construction, communications and tourism sectors.
Relations between the two countries are based on a package of signed agreements - (1)a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in energy, (2) an economic cooperation agreement, and (3) an agreement on cooperation between chambers of commerce.
Ashgabat and Sofia are focusing on Turkmen gas supplies. In particular, the Turkmen side has promised to satisfy Sofia's request to get 2 billion cubic meters of gas.
Bulgarian sources said the gas could be supplied through the existing gas network until the Nabucco project's implementation.
Earlier, Turkmenistan supplied small quantities of fuel to Iran, which borders Turkey, and could send fuel transits to Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian partners were also invited to take part in building the North-South Railway Corridor, which will reduce the transport time from Central Asia to the Persian Gulf.
