Iran's privatization of public organizations and companies during the past five years increased by 31 times, IRNA reported, quoting Iran's Minister of Economy Shamsoldin Hosseini as saying.
"The privatization during the past five years is 31 times that of all privatization starting in 1991 through 2004 and within the legal framework", he said.
He noted that the private sector is eager to buy power plants, refineries, petrochemical, airlines, and insurance companies.
Iran has thus far assigned ownership of banks and steel companies to the private sector.
Previously the Industrial Commission's Deputy in Parliament Ahmad Mahdavi said that Iran's Industries are almost halted due to the lack of financial sources, while only 13 percent of the privatization process during the last solar year (which ended March 20, 2011) was real.
