Kazakhstan proposes Azerbaijan to exclude VAT from port fees

Kazakhstan offers Azerbaijan to consider the possibility of levying port fees from vessels under the flag of Kazakhstan, excluding value added tax (VAT), says the text of the Protocol, signed in Baku on Thursday following the eighth meeting of Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation.

The Kazakh cargo through the Aktau Port in transit through the Baku Port is transported permanently.

Last year, the volume of cargo transportation from Kazakhstan to Baku was about 5.43 million tons, from Baku to Aktau - 95,800 tons. In the first half of 2011, these figures were more than 2.49 million tons and 18,700 tons.

The inter-governmental commission instructed the public authorities of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to finalize the coordination of the draft inter-governmental agreement on cooperation in the field of maritime transport trade.

It was also instructed to conduct work to provide the ships under the flag of Kazakhstan with unimpeded unloading/loading and delivering/receiving goods, including providing free and equal access to ships under the flag of Kazakhstan in the sea ports and terminals in Azerbaijan.
