About 350 workers of the Georgian seaport of Poti were turned off, Georgian media reported Monday.
According to the reports, the decision on dismissal was announced to the workers by the head of the port at a general meeting on Friday.
According to one of the fired people, several workers became ill at the meeting and an ambulance was called.
Port administration claims that firing is caused by the restructuring process and all off the dismissed workers would get compensations provided by the law.
Layoffs at the no. 1 terminal, container terminal and oil terminal were also planned for Monday.
According to the port administration, personnel and structural changes in the port began since June. 1,500 people went through psychological testing; as a result of it many of them lost their jobs. However, then dismissals affected mainly the port administration staff.
