EU to assist Azerbaijan in developing certification standards for working places

Azerbaijan develops the certification standards for working places within the EU twinning project "Support for the national labour inspection service in improving occupational health and safety", Minister of Labour and Social Protection Fizuli Alakbarov told media today.

Azerbaijan develops the certification standards for working places within the EU twinning project "Support for the national labour inspection service in improving occupational health and safety", Minister of Labour and Social Protection Fizuli Alakbarov told media today.

"At present, certification is carried out by the employers in accordance with international standards as this methodology has not been developed in Azerbaijan yet," he said. "This sphere is one of the most important within the twinning project."

He said that the tripartite social council to be established between of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs and the Confederation of Trade Unions will play an important role in this direction.

The project includes five components: preparation of technical conditions for professional health and labor safety management system; identification of indicators for professional health and labor safety observation by the inspection; preparation of new documents and professional health and labor safety operating procedures and training labor inspectors to using the procedures; strengthening of professional health and labor safety training potential; and preparation of more efficient communication instruments and identification of technical requirements for onsite visits.

The EU twinning instrument represents an instrument of cooperation, which is designed to help partner countries improve their legal provisions in conformity with the EU legislation. Such an instrument assumes a phase-to-phase reorganization of administrative structures on the basis of European legal standards and practice.
