Despite the global financial and economic crisis, Turkmenistan has provided Turkish partners with an opportunity to actively participate in a number of major projects, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in an interview with the Turkish media published locally on Tuesday on the eve of his visit to Ankara.

"Despite the global financial crisis, our country provided our Turkish partners with the opportunity to actively participate in a number of large scale projects," the Turkmen leader said.

He said that these companies felt confident in the land of their ancestors and take an active part in the realisation of Turkmenistan's socio-economic development programmes as testified by a number of successful joint projects.

"We look forward to a long-term partnership based on openness," the president said. The dynamics of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Turkey which increased by 25 per cent in 2011 compared to 2010 is obvious.

Turkmenistan mainly exports textiles, fuel-energy, chemical and agricultural industries. Metal and its related products, household goods, equipment, building materials, goods of electrical, chemical, light, food industries, vehicles and medicines are obtained from Turkey.

In an interview, President Berdimuhamedov also stressed that the brotherly Republic of Turkey is a reliable partner to Turkmenistan.

He said that there are wide opportunities for the development of relations in the fuel-energy industry, chemical, transport and communications, healthcare, construction and other areas.
"The proximity of the two fraternal peoples' views on important international issues, as well as regular meetings at the highest level creates the conditions to implement broad opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation," the president said.

The Turkish Nata Construction Tourism Trade and Industry Co. Yapı branch network President Namık Tanik, operating in Turkmenistan, has recently called on their Turkish counterparts to invest in the country. He stressed that there are no difficulties with respect to payment from the Turkmen government.

Of note, the Cihan edition, referring to the words of a businessman, reported that so he denied the rumours about the irrelevance payment. The information stated that the company has successfully built 180 bridges in Turkmenistan. The total project cost, which covered five regions of the country, is estimated at $287.5 million.

Mr Tanik said that the company plans to build a road bridge across the Karakum Canal, within Ashgabat. The project will be implemented by the end of 2012 and cost approximately $ 23 million. At present, the company is building the longest bridge in Turkmenistan with a length of 320 metres in the village of Serdar.
