Iran exported around 1.4 million tons of rice, worth over $1.1 billion, during the 11-month period, ending February 18, 2012, ISNA news agency reported on Sunday.

The figures grew by 41.5 percent and 39.3 percent respectively in terms of weight and value compared to the amounts in the year before, the report added.

In May 2011, Agricultural Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian said Iran's imports of agricultural products dropped by 30 percent in the calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2011.

"The import volume of agricultural products dropped by 30 percent last year," IRNA quoted Khalilian as saying.

"The reduction in imports is a big leap forward for the agricultural output," he added.
