Uzbekistan keeps foreign trade balance with CIS countries at last year's level

In the first quarter Uzbekistan kept the balance of foreign trade with the CIS countries almost at the level of the same period last year - $340.1 million compared to $338.8 million a year earlier, the State Statistics Committee said on Wednesday.

The black ink with other countries amounted to $20.2 million compared to $885.2 million in January - March 2011.

According to the Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries in the first quarter of this year increased by 19.3 per cent compared to the same period of 2011 amounting to $2.49 billion. In particular, exports to the CIS countries rose by 34.9 per cent and amounted to $1.415 billion, to other countries decreased by 26.4 per cent to $1.719 billion.

Imports from the CIS countries since the beginning of this year rose by 3.6 per cent compared to the same period last year and amounted to $1.075 billion, from other countries by 24.2 per cent up to $1.699 billion.

Some 42.2 per cent in the overall structure of foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan in the first quarter accounted for the CIS countries, while 57.8 per cent for other countries.
As was previously reported, the whole foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan in January-March 2012 rose by two per cent compared to the same period of 2011 and amounted to $5.908 billion.

In particular, the volume of exports since the beginning of the year fell by 7.4 per cent and amounted to $3.134 billion, imports rose by 15.3 per cent, up to $2.774 billion.

The foreign trade surplus amounted to $360.3 million compared to $1.124 billion in the same period of 2011 (a 3.1-times decrease).

As was previously reported, in 2011, foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan increased by 15 per cent up to $25.537 billion including exports which grew by 15.4 per cent up to $15.027 billion and imports by 14.5 per cent up to 10.509 billion. The foreign trade surplus last year increased by 6.4 per cent and amounted to $4.517 billion.
