Merger of two insurance companies takes place in Georgia

The Aldagi bci insurance company has become the owner of 85 percent of the shares in the Imedi L insurance company, Aldagi CEO Nika Gamkrelidze and Imedi L Deputy Executive Director Nikoloz Chikhladze said on Friday.

Gamkrelidze noted that the negotiations on the purchase of the remaining 15 percent stake are held with shareholders.

According to the National Bank of Georgia, Aldagi bci accounts for 17.1 percent of the insurance market in the third quarter of 2011, Imedi L - 16,3 percent. As a result of the merger, the number of customers exceeds 420,000.

Gamkrelidze said the Bank of Georgia added 32.5 million lari to the capital of Aldagi bci, so the company's capital amounted to more than 77 million lari. He added that it is the largest capital in the insurance market of Georgia.

"Georgia will receive the most serious and large-scale insurance company in the result of the merger of the two largest insurance companies" Gamkrelidze said.
