China to supply equipment to Turkmenistan for development of Galkynysh field

Turkmengeology State Corporation intends to sign with a consortium of Tianjin Pipe International Economic & Trading Corporation and the Beijing Guochuang Xingye Sci-Teck Co., Ltd. China (PRC) contract for the purchase of equipment for the development of the country's largest gas field, Galkynysh, an official Turkmen source said on Saturday.

In order to implement the Programme of development of oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan until 2030, and to increase availability of operational wells in this field, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a relevant order.

This matter is the purchase of 9597 tons of casing pipes of different sizes, intended for field wells, which drilling operations will be carried on.

Timely commissioning of major gas fields, among them Galkynysh, is due to the strategic plans to build a steady amount of energy to world markets.

The first stage of industrial development of Galkynysh is carried out by Turkmengas state concern, which signed in December 2009 service contracts with Gulf Oil & Gas Fze, Petrofac International LLC (UAE), CNPC Chuanging Drilling Engineering Company (PRC) and a consortium of LG Internatinal Corp and Hyudai Engineering (South Korea) for a total of
$9.7 billion.

Turkmenistan is one of the largest exporters of gas in the Caspian region and at this stage has the ability to export natural gas to China, Iran and Russia. Among the planned gas pipelines from Turkmenistan are an additional to Russia (Caspian gas pipeline - through Kazakhstan), Europe (Trans-Caspian gas pipeline - as part of Nabucco or AGRI - via the Caspian Sea through Azerbaijan) and India (Trans-Afghan gas pipeline via Pakistan).

In accordance with the Development Programme of oil and gas industry, in 2030 it is planned to increase annual natural gas production to 230 billion cubic meters, which basically will be exported.
