All of the necessary measures will be taken to support former Oil Minister Gholamhossein Nozari to win the secretary general post in OPEC, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said.

The Shana News Agency quoted him as saying that Iran is a founding member as well as an influential member of the organization and it is natural for it to win the post.

The Iranian OPEC Governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi has said as it pursues its own candidacy for the post of OPEC's Secretary General, Iran won't be backing nominees from other countries including Iraq and Ecuador.

It is expected that OPEC will evaluate contenders for its top post in late October, Khatibi told Mehr News Agency.

Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador have introduced candidates for the post too.

Former Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi said a strong secretary general will be able to keep oil prices and production at an acceptable level, adding that the candidate will surely assume office.
