The Turkish-Azerbaijani consortium consisting of "Cukurova İnsaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S." and "Su İstilik Qurasdırma" has been chosen as a contractor for water supply and sewerage reconstruction in Naftalan, Azersu (Azerbaijani national water operator) told Trend today.

These operations will be financed under "The Water Supply and Sewerage System Restoration Joint Project of the Azerbaijani Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency".

"The contract has already been signed with a contractor chosen from the international tender", Azersu said.

There are plans to lay a 5.9 kilometer-water pipeline consisting of polyethylene pipes to provide Naftalan with drinking water. There are also plans to build a chlorination unit and two reservoirs with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters each.

The 31-kilometer-sewerage network will be built from different diameter pipes and a 2 kilometer-sewerage collector in Naftalan.

A new administrative building will be built in Naftalan and a production area will be created.

Construction will have commenced by late January 2013. Work is planned to be completed by February 2015. After the project is implemented, the water supply and sewerage systems will have been improved for up to 10,000 Naftalan town inhabitants.

"The Water Supply and Sewerage Systems in Small Towns Project" requires the construction of water supply and sewerage services in 10 Azerbaijani municipalities (Salyan, Shirvan, Neftchala, Barda, Khachmaz, Yevlakh, Naftalan, Khizi, Gusar and Gobustan).

According to the credit agreement signed on May 29, 2009, the Japanese side will allocate 38 billion yen ($400 million) to conduct these operations.
