Negotiations between Turkmen and Lithuanian government delegations were held in Ashgabat. Prospects of further cooperation were also discussed, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.

Several bilateral documents include an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion from income and capital taxes and an agreement on economic cooperation and a memorandum of understanding between the Turkmen Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts that were signed following the talks.

Both sides expressed mutual interest in accelerating the beneficial partnership, establishing long term contacts between ministries and relevant departments and the Turkmen and Lithuanian business sectors, the report said.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has recently received Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius in Ashgabat. They discussed the creation of a new route connecting the regions of the Caspian Sea, the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea, which opens great prospects for speeding up regional and inter-regional trade and economic relations in Eurasia and in particular with the Baltic countries.

Butkevicius said Lithuania is ready to offer Turkmenistan its experience in the field of ports and logistics, maritime transport and shipbuilding. The energy sector, several industrial branches, the textile industry, as well as modern high technologies are among other promising areas of cooperation.

A joint business forum has been recently held in Ashgabat. Representatives of Lithuanian companies, such as ALNA, B.G.M, Avia Solutions Group, Imlitex Holdings, Calenberg, RITTAL, Kauno tiltai, Baltic Legal Solutions Lietuva, Conmaster, APT21 and Auksinis ungurys attended.
