Trade turnover between China and Azerbaijan has grown 800-fold during 21 years of diplomatic relations, the Ambassador of China to Azerbaijan Hong Jiuyin said speaking on Monday at the on-going international conference in Baku entitled 'The Phenomenon of economic development of China and Azerbaijan in the context of development of socio-economic rights of citizens'.
"In the first years following the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral trade amounted to only $1.5 million. Last year its volume reached $1.2 billion. This impressive figure well characterises the pace of development of relations between our countries," Jiuyin said.
According to him, there are traditional friendly relations between China and Azerbaijan.
"There are strong historical, cultural and economic ties between our two countries and people that have formed a solid foundation for further development of mutual cooperation. The Chinese government attaches great importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan. There are no outstanding issues between our countries. Frequent mutual visits of delegations of the two countries have been observed in recent years. Azerbaijan and China's position on key political issues are identical or similar," the Ambassador said.
Azerbaijan and China support each other on issues relating to fundamental interests of the two countries including such important aspects as sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Chinese diplomat said.
"Alongside, our cooperation is not limited to the economy. Cooperation is successfully developing in the humanitarian and cultural spheres as well. Some educational institutions of Azerbaijan have opened Chinese language and culture centres. This shows an interest and high potential for further development of relations between our countries," China's Ambassador to Azerbaijan said.
