Uzbek company receives license for large limestone deposit

Ahangarancement in the city of Akhangaran in the Tashkent region, a subsidiary of Russia's "Eurocement Group" has received a license to extract limestone and marl from the Shavazsay deposit in the Almalyk region, a representative of Uzbuildmaterials joint stock company told Trend on March 27.

Limestone reserves in the Shavazsay deposit opened in 1974 hit 36.4 million tons, according to the company. These reserves at Ahangarancement's existing facilities will be enough for 25 years according to the preliminary data.

A license for non-metallic mineral extraction has been issued by a special commission of the Uzbek government.

Ahangarancement, the second cement producer in Uzbekistan, began operating in 1961. The design capacity is 1.986 million tons of cement per annum. The domestic market share is about 30 percent.

Russian "Eurocement Group" acquired 75.6 percent stake in Ahangarancement in August 2006. The Russian company bought a package to the amount of 50 percent, earlier owned by the Uzbek- Swiss joint venture Bentonite and 25.6 percent - the Swiss Zeromax GmbH. At present, the Russian company controls an 83.9 percent stake in the plant. Other shareholders are physical entities.

The company increased production of cement by six percent up to 1.62 million tons, clinker production increased by 13 percent - to 1.167 million tons in 2013 compared to 2012.
