Kazakhstan intends to intensify its activity as a donor country as part of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Kazakh Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Yerbolat Dossayev said during a briefing at the Central Communication Service under the Kazakh president on April 22.
"We have been the ADB's donor - first among all post-Soviet republics-shareholders of the bank since 2013," he said. "We allocated $5.4 million to the ADB's fund in 2013 to support the programs, mainly in Central Asia. This work will be continued."
The minister has not specified the amount of Kazakhstan's donor funds to be allocated in 2014.
ADB representatives appreciated Kazakhstan's intention a year ago to become not only the recipient but also the donor for other countries. Kazakhstan's experience in the field of reforms in the economic, social, financial areas will be very useful for other regional countries, according to the bank's experts. Kazakhstan can also render not only financial support, but also technical and advisory services.
ADB was established in 1966. Some 67 member-countries are its shareholders.
Kazakhstan joined ADB in 1994. Kazakhstan and the bank cooperate in the transport sector, energy, private sector development.
