More than 30 percent of contractors in Turkey may be deprived of their licenses, Turkish Minister of Environment and Urban Planning Idris Gulluce said Sept. 17, the Turkish TV channel Haber7 reported.

"Among these companies are those which violate the rights of workers, as well as cause great damage to the environment," he said.

Gulluce added that the ministry is working out a new construction bill. It will be submitted to the parliament within two months.

There are 300,000 contractors in the country, according to the Turkish Building Contractors Association.
