Turkey's priority is to create an electric vehicle, as it can not compete with the countries producing the vehicles with internal combustion engines, Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri Ishik was quoted Oct. 22 by Anadolu news agency.

The minister said that Turkey intends to manufacture the first domestic electric car in the coming years.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered accelerating domestic car production.

He stressed that Turkey already produces drones, and armored vehicles, so the country's economy has the ability to produce an electric car.

Turkey will prepare a package of measures stimulating domestic electric car production.

Turkey ranks sixth in car production in Europe. Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN cars are manufactured or assembled in Turkey.

Buses of local brands such as Temsa and Otokar are also manufactured in the country.
