Turkmenistan expects rich cotton harvest

Turkmenistan is expected to have rich cotton harvest in 2015, "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper reported.

The cultivators are expected to harvest 1.05 million metric tons of cotton, including 300,000 metric tons in Lebap province, 207,000 metric tons in Ahal, 313,000 metric tons - Mary and 230,000 metric tons - Dashoguz province.

Irrigation, fertilization and inter-row cultivation is underway in the country's cotton field covering an area of 545,000 hectares.

Care for crops will traditionally last till the end of summer 2015, when it is planned to start another important agricultural campaign - harvesting.

Cotton is the main product exported by Turkmenistan and is a sought after raw material for tens of modern enterprises developing dynamically in the country's textile industry.

Ashgabat hosts the international fair of cotton products of Turkmenistan every year.
