More than 1,000 representatives of the cotton and textile companies and firms from 40 world countries are taking part in the eleventh International Cotton and Textile Fair, which opened in Tashkent Oct. 15.
The main objectives of the Cotton Fair is to further expand the long-term cooperation with international organizations and foreign companies, to analyze the trends and review the prospects for the development of the world market, as well as to inform the Uzbek cotton consumers about its quality and latest innovations in the areas of production cotton, trade and logistics.
The conference participants, including the leading international experts in the field of world cotton and textile industry, will discuss the demand and supply, prices and factors of influence on the world cotton market, the state and prospects of production and marketing of cotton in Uzbekistan.
The fair has been held annually in Uzbekistan since 2005. It is organized by the government of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC). In total, Uzbekistan has signed the export contracts worth about 7 million tons of cotton fiber at the fairs.
The tenth, jubilee Cotton Fair was held in 2014. The contracts on export of 580,000 metric tons of cotton fiber and finished textile products worth more than $1 billion were concluded.
The main volumes of cotton fiber were sold to China, Singapore, Russia, South Korea, India, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.
The main buyers of Uzbek cotton are the companies from Bangladesh, China, and South Korea.
Uzbekistan ranks sixth for production and fifth for the export of cotton fiber in the world. The country produces around 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1.2 million tons of cotton fiber per year.
