Ukraine intends to join the International North-South Transport Corridor to deliver its cargo through Azerbaijan to Iran and Central Asia, Igbal Huseynov, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Railways, told reporters in Baku Nov. 25.

“Ukraine offers to assist and support the transportation of goods from Europe through the Ukrainian border checkpoints via the North-South corridor with the condition of its joining the corridor to deliver its goods to Iran,” Huseynov said.

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC and Ukrainian Railways PJSC signed a memorandum of understanding Nov. 25. The document was signed by Javid Gurbanov, head of Azerbaijan Railways, and Marek Zalesny, a member of the Management Board of Ukrainian Railways.

The North-South Transport Corridor will connect Northern Europe with Southeastern Asia, as well as link railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.

The corridor is planned to transport 6 million tons of cargo per year at the initial stage and 15-20 million tons of cargo in the future.
