The automobile tunnel Cankurtaran in Artvin province in the north-east of Turkey will open in late December. The Ministry of Transport, Shipping and Communications of Turkey told Trend on Dec.7.
The ministry said that the construction of the tunnel began in October 2010.
"Its total length is 5,900 meters," the ministry said.
In late November, the first branch of the Ovit automobile tunnel was put into operation, which connects two provinces of Turkey - Rize and Erzurum in the north-west of the country.
Currently, 40 automobile and three railway tunnels operate in Turkey.
Today, the construction of theYeni Zigana Dağı, Kop Dağı, Sabuncubeli and Dolmabahçe-Fulya tunnels continues.
