New road tunnel to open in northeastern Turkey

A new road tunnel “Cankurtaran” will open in the Artvin province in the northeast of Turkey, the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey told Trend Feb. 28.
The opening of the tunnel is scheduled for March 1.
“Construction of the tunnel in the Artvin province started in 2010, and the total length of the tunnel is 5.9 kilometers,” the ministry said.
Presently, 40 road and three railway tunnels operate in Turkey.
