Wheat harvesting campaign underway in Turkmenistan

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a working meeting devoted to the wheat harvesting campaign, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The Turkmen president gave instructions to create conditions for harvesting the grain in due time, its proper storage, taking the necessary measures to transport wheat without losses, according to the report.

Turkmenistan plans to collect 1.6 million tons of grain from 760,000 hectares of land in 2018, including 450,000 tons in Akhal province, 380,000 tons in Mary, 350,000 tons in Lebap, 300,000 tons in Dashoguz and 120,000 tons in Balkan province.

The harvesting campaign involves grain harvesting equipment manufactured by John Deere and CLAAS companies.

In July 2017, it was reported that the country harvested about one million tons of wheat. Turkmenistan has previously received a special award by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations for achievements in the field of food security.
