Ukraine to become bridge to EU for Uzbek goods

Uzbekistan and Ukraine reached an agreement on export of Uzbek goods and attracting a total of $25 million of Ukrainian investments, the Uzbek news agency Dunyo reported on June 28.

Corresponding agreements were reached in Kiev during the first economic forum “Uzbekistan and Ukraine: Prospects for the Development of Economic Relations."

The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ukraine with the assistance of the ministries of foreign affairs, economic development and trade, the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the International Chamber of Commerce.

The parties considered the prospects for development of joint ventures in the pharmaceutical, oil and gas, coal mining and other areas.

The Uzbek side presented the potential of the Navoi region and described in detail the uniqueness of the investment opportunities created in the Navoi Free Economic Zone. At the same time, Uzbek enterprises participating in the meeting, such as Artel, Akfa, Osborn, Ideal, Bonito, presented samples of their products.

The sides agreed that transformation of Ukraine into a hub for delivery of Uzbek products to the EU market is the strategic direction of cooperation.

They also expressed interest in delivery of Ukrainian goods through Uzbekistan to the Central Asia region.

The two countries agreed to reach a new level of partnership through intensification of contacts in energy, transport, tourism, ICT, electrical engineering, railway electrification, car building, coal mining and pharmaceutical spheres.
