Almaty waste sorting complex in Kazakhstan has started working in technical mode and is in the final stage of construction, Kazakh media reported referring to the press service of the city administration.

The project worth 5.4 billion tenges was implemented through private investment.

Director of the investing company Dmitry Danilchenko noted that the capacity of the complex is 550,000 tons per year.

It is planned to extract about 50,000 tons of secondary raw materials from the total waste, the press service said. It is also planned to organize on the territory of the plant its own sites for processing of secondary raw materials.

"The opening of the waste sorting complex is extremely timely for Almaty. After all, solid domestic waste in the city accounts for up to 95 percent of all municipal waste. Despite the rules for recycling and neutralization of production and consumption waste in Almaty, there are difficulties with resolving the issues related to the collection, disposal and storage of hazardous, construction and large-size waste," the press service said.

The official exchange rate on August 10 was 354.06 KTZ/USD.
