Azerbaijan plans to start exporting tobacco to the Eastern European countries next year, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tobacco Producers and Exporters Association Telman Hasratov told Trend.
He said that Azerbaijani tobacco is exported to Russia, Belarus and other neighboring countries, but the geography of supply will expand, in particular, to the countries of Eastern Europe.
He noted that the tobacco production in Azerbaijan fully covers domestic demand, however, it is planned to expand production volumes by the end of this year.
“Tobacco production may grow 25-30 percent,” he added. “The work in this direction is progressing according to the established schedule. In the future, we plan to increase production volumes to 13,000 tons of tobacco.”
He noted that tobacco sown areas will also increase.
He said that the biggest volumes of tobacco production are concentrated in Balakan, Sheki, Ismayilli, Gabala, Lerik and Masalli districts of Azerbaijan.
