Uzbekistan’s State Unitary Enterprise Maxsustrans and the GorKomTrans [city transportation committee] of Karaganda (Kazakhstan) will jointly build a plant for processing of municipal solid waste in Tashkent, the press service of the city administration stated.

“The purpose is to provide theoretical and practical advisory assistance in studying and disseminating experience of the two enterprises in municipal waste management, including organizing collection, removal, sorting and recycling of municipal waste,” the statement reads.

For a detailed discussion of the project, a meeting was held in the city administration of Tashkent with representatives of the administration of the city of Karaganda, at which a list of works that would be performed as part of mutual cooperation was specified.

There are currently 186 landfill sites operating in Uzbekistan, where which 33.4 million tons of garbage is located. Experts predict that the annual accumulated volume of municipal solid waste in Uzbekistan by 2030 will reach approximately 7 million tons.
