Trend:

Sanction exemption will create opportunities to use the infrastructure of Iran’s Chabahar Port and would certainly increase the opportunities for export and import, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Rastad told ILNA.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has granted a sanctions waiver for the Indian-Iranian port project at Chabahar.

"Regardless of the cause of exemption of Chabahar port, the maritime access of this area can be helpful for improving the country's economy and create prospects of growth and development,” he added.

"The Indian operator will start working in the port soon. The contracts have been set and the new equipment has been delivered at the Port,” he noted.

Apart from the cause of the exemption and its potential deadline, Iran should be able to use this opportunity to maximize the growth and development of economy through increased transit, Rastad added.

"The capacities of Chabahar Port are remarkable and the role of this port in transportation can provide a unique opportunity for development of transit potential," he said.
