By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:

By Oct. 1, 2018, 31 new enterprises with Azerbaijani share appeared in Uzbekistan, Deputy Chairman of the State Investment Committee of Uzbekistan Shukhrat Vafayev told Trend on Dec. 24.

According to him, as of Oct. 1, 2018, Uzbekistan had 113 enterprises with the participation of Azerbaijani capital in such spheres as trade, engineering and metalworking, finance and insurance, real estate, energy, services, jewelry production and repair, food industry and light industry.

Vafayev underlined that the economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan is of great importance in the development of bilateral relations.

“Significant progress has been observed in this direction. Nevertheless, the current level of cooperation cannot satisfy our countries. We believe more effort is needed from both sides to realize the existing economic potential between the countries,” Vafayev said.

He reminded that trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan amounted to $31.2 million in 2017. At the same time, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, as of Dec. 1, 2018, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $38.68 million, which is 24 percent more compared to the whole 2017.

“By developing direct partnerships between businessmen of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, expanding the scope of investment cooperation, it is possible to multiply trade and economic indicators. Increasing the activities of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani intergovernmental joint commission, holding business forums, presentations of the economic potential of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, exhibitions and other events are of great importance in this regard,” Vafayev concluded.
