Rice production in Azerbaijan's Astara district has increased by 40-50 percent, Deputy Director of "Astara duyu", a major rice producer in Azerbaijan, Etibar Salimov told Trend.
He noted that the company's products cover domestic demand in Astara, and are also sold in Baku and other cities of the country.
"Presently, the volume of rice production is 1,500 tons per year, and we intend to increase this figure in the future. Besides, we are planning to export to Russia. Last year we received some offers, and currently we are working on all possible options in order to start exporting this year," he said.
The deputy director noted that the volume of export may not be significant at the first stage.
"We believe that as the production volumes increase, the enterprise will increase export volumes as well," he said.
The deputy director also noted that Astara rice is an environmentally friendly product and meets modern quality standards.
