Ranking of trade partners: Azerbaijan increases trade with Italy

The trade turnover of Azerbaijan with five main trade partners of the country reached $2.7 billion in January-February 2019, which accounted for 49.7 percent of the total trade turnover of the country, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee.

Italy retained the status of the largest trade partner of Azerbaijan with a trade turnover of $1.2 billion and a share of 23.31 percent. Italy is followed by Turkey with $471.4 million (8.9 percent), Russia with $340.5 million (6.4 percent), Germany with $325.8 million (6.13 percent) and Switzerland with $295.8 million (5.56 percent).

During this period, Azerbaijan purchased products mostly in Switzerland with for $275.1 million (12.7 percent). Then follows: Russia with $251.8 million (11.63 percent), Turkey with $196.6 million (9.08 percent), Iran with $181.3 million (8.37 percent), and China with $181.1 million (8.36 percent). The share of these countries in the total volume of Azerbaijan's imports was 50 percent.

The main consumer of Azerbaijani products during this period was Italy with $1.2 billion (37.67 percent) of Azerbaijan's total exports. The list is followed by Turkey with $274.7 million (8.72 percent), Germany with $240.6 million (7.63 percent), Spain with $148 million (4.69 percent), Portugal with $144.2 million ( 4.58 percent). The share of these countries in total exports of Azerbaijan was 63.3 percent.

In total, in January-February 2019, Azerbaijan's foreign trade operations increased by almost 31.1 percent compared to the same period in 2018, amounting to $5.3 billion.

The positive balance in this period was $986.3 million, which is by 23 percent more than the figure of the same period of 2018.
