The design of the 18-kilometer section of the highway and railway leading to the deep-water port of Anaklia in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of Georgia is nearing completion, Trend reports with reference to apsny.ge.
The project on construction of the port of Anaklia, which is the the first deep-water port in Georgia, commenced in December 2017. "As Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Economy, I fully understand the importance of the deep-water port in Anaklia for the country and the economic development of the state," Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Georgy Gakharia said.
According to Georgian Department of Highways, topographic works are at the stage of completion and geological work is intensively carried out. As reported, four project teams are working simultaneously.
Recently, Deputy Chairman of the Department of Highways Levan Kupatashvili and Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region Alexander Mocerelia familiarized themselves with the progress of the design work in the port of Anaklia.
The design of the access road and railway is carried out by the Australian company Smek, which plans to finish the work in October. The contract value of the project is seven million lari.
