Iran is holding intense negotiations over electricity cooperation with its neighbors in the Caspian region including Azerbaijan and Georgia to increase its power network sustainability, said Iran's Energy Minister.

"Intense negotiations over power sector cooperation with neighbor countries including Azerbaijan and Georgia are underway to synchronize Iran's power system to Russia's network. The following step is to ensure the network sustainability and increase of electricity trade in the region," said Reza Ardakanian, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"There are good opportunities to form a joint commission based on negotiations. It may also lead to forming join ventures, providing services to the countries of the region and developing cooperation in solar panel construction," he added.

Iranian official emphasized the importance of free trade deal between Iran and five members of Eurasia Economic Zone at the closing ceremony of the 15th Summit of Iran-Russia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.

"Implementing the agreement for Iran accession to Eurasia Economic Zone is an advantage. Russia and Kazakhstan are major exporters of grains, so using the North-South corridor route via Iran will reduce the long distance for their exports, while Iran can also import the products for its needs," he added.
