Kharg Petrochemical Complex continues to export its products despite the US sanctions.
Alireza Ali Shahi, energy an expert at Kharg Petrochemical Complex, discussed the recent petrochemical production situation in an interview with Trend.
"Kharg Petrochemical Complex was established in 1968 to produce propane, butane, naphta, sulphur and methanol," he said. "Its annual production capacity reaches 115,000 tons of propane, 120,000 tons of butane, 70,000 tons of naphtha (C5+), 170,000 tons of sulphur and 606,000 tons of methanol."
"The exact production figure during first three months of current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) is not available, but production at the complex is 96 percent of the predicted budget plan," Alishahi said referring to production statistics .
"Last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), Kharg Petrochemical Complex has produced 100 percent of volume forecasted," he added.
"The complex's products are not supplied to the domestic market, it is exported. Equal portion of each product is being exported to various markets abroad," he said. "LPG is exported to India, China and Pakistan, naphta is exported to the Emirates, sulphur is exported to China and India, and methanol is exported to Taiwan, China and India."
"We do not barter, and return of foreign currency is done through financial mechanism. There is no specific problem in return of exports' foreign currency revenues. The country's banks provide LC, and even the payment for products is in rial," he noted.
The expert went on to say, "The demand for our products exceeds the supply, otherwise we could not sell our products. currently, we exporting LPG to UAE, although we used to export the product to Iraq. We stopped exports to this country after Iraq set up its own LPG unit."
