New Istanbul Airport serves almost 16 million passengers in 1H2019

In January-June 2019, the new airport in Istanbul served 15.942 million passengers, Trend reports referring to the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry of Turkey.

According to the ministry, 4.160 million passengers were served by domestic flights, while 11.782 million passengers were served by international flights.

During the reported period, 120,836 flights were carried out at the new airport in Istanbul, 33,059 of which were domestic flights, and 87,777 were on international.

The volume of cargo transportation at the airport amounted to 147,512 tons, 22,897 tons of which were carried by domestic flights, while 124,615 tons were carried by international ones.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.

The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
