Uzbekistan raises rate of excise taxes on tobacco, alcohol

The excise tax rate on alcohol products in Uzbekistan will increase by an average of 10 percent, on tobacco products - by 20 percent from October 1, 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

The excise tax on alcohol and tobacco has already increased by 20 percent since July 1.

The validity of previously issued licenses for the production of alcohol and alcohol products extended until January 1, 2020.

In addition, from August 15, the excise tax rate rises by 20 percent when selling compressed gas to the end user.

The new rates were approved by a presidential decree "On measures to further improve the regulation of the production and sale of certain types of products subject to excise tax."

Previously, the excise tax rate on alcoholic beverages, alcohol, beer and tobacco products manufactured in the country increased from January 1, 2017, on average - by 23 percent. Excise taxes on imports were not then changed.
