Iran loads and unloads more than 52M tons of cargo

Some 52.6 million tons of oil and non-oil products were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports during the 4 months (21 March - 22 July) of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), said Mohammad Rastad, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), Trend reports referring to the PMO’s website.

According to him, there was a 4.3-percent increase in loading and unloading in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

Rastad added that 37.9 million tons of non-oil products were transported in Iranian ports, which shows an 8.5-percent increase over the same period of the previous year.

He also said that imports of 12.4 million tons of non-oil products were carried out through the ports during the 4-month period.

"Some 19.5 million tons of non-oil products were exported at the ports, in which a 3.3-percent increase was observed," he said.

Rastad went on to say that 1.25 million tons of cargo were transshipped, and a 19.5-percent increase was marked in this area.

He also said that 3,31 million tons of goods were transported via cabotage and a 17-percent increase was observed.

He continued that 3,181 vessels with over 1,000 tons of goods moved in the Iranian ports during the 4-month period.

Speaking about the operations executed in specific ports, Rastad said that 15.9 million tons of products were transported through the port of Imam Khomeyni, and that a 2-percent increase was observed in terms of weight in oil and non-oil products.

"The operations increased by 32 percent to 1.51 million tons in the port of Amirabad, and by 31 percent to 991,000 tons in the port of Chabahar," he said.

According to Rastad, loading and unloading of goods at the port of Khorramshahr increased by 39 percent to 808,000 tons, while an increase of a total of 1 percent (when accounting for both oil and non-oil products) with the shipment of 27.6 million tons of products was noted at the port of Shahid Rajaee.

"In cargo transportation, the activities of the port of Abadan increased by 46 percent to 42,000 tons [in comparison with the same period of the previous year], with a 75-percent increase to 37,000 tons observed in the port of Jask, a 177-percent increase to 13,000 tons in the port of Chavibdeh, a 52-percent increase to 317,000 tons in the port of Nowshahr, a 18-percent increase to 686,000 tons in the port of Shahid Bahonar, a 17-percent increase to 2.61 million tons in the port of Qeshm, and a 53-percent increase to 56,000 tons in the port of Fereydunkenar," he concluded.
