The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has successfully completed the first stage of the light signaling system installation on a runway at Tbilisi International Airport, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.

The runway at Tbilisi Airport on route 13R has so far not been equipped with a light signaling system.

At 420 meters from the existing runway, special upgraded light bulbs were installed on special masts, allowing navigation to ensure safe operation of aircraft.

The project for the expansion of the light signaling system was carried out by the French company "ADPI", a branch of Airports de Paris, which owns Paris airports. Delivery and installation of modern system components was carried out by the Italian company OCEM. COSTRUZIONI ELETTRO-MECCANICHE s.r.l.., which is the world leader in the production of concrete forming machines and universal equipment for the concrete industry.

The second phase of the project, which will expand the system to 900 meters, will begin shortly.

The new lighting system will further enhance the level of safety of flights at the Tbilisi airport and facilitate the landing of aircraft in conditions of heavy fog, bad weather conditions and poor visibility.
