New Tabriz–Mianeh railway road under construction in Iran

The Mianeh-Bostanabad-Tabriz rail road, which is under construction, is a strategic communication route for the country, said Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The cost of the project implementation was $357 million so far, and the total estimated cost is expected to reach $1.1 billion," Kheirollah Khademi noted.

"The Bostanabad-Mianeh route will be launched soon, and the second line from Bostanabad to Tabriz will be operational by next Iranian year [starts March 21, 2020]," he added. "This project is one of the country's most important railway plans aimed to expand Iran railway network and connect provinces."

On August 15, Head of Plan and Budget Organization Mohammad Bagher Nobakht announced that the Mianeh–Bostanabad railway line will start operating in next two months.

"Mianeh-Tabriz Railway is about 203 kilometers, of which 132 kilometers include Mianeh-Bostanabad road, while the remaining 70 km cover Bostanabd-Tabriz road," Nobakht added.

The Mianeh – Bostanabad – Tabriz route starts from the Mianeh station on Tehran – Tabriz railway road, passes through Torkamanchay, Bostanabad, Basmenj cities and ends at Tabriz railway station.

Mianeh – Bostanabad – Tabriz follows the Tehran – Mianeh railway. By completing the construction, travel time between Tehran and Tabriz will be reduced to 5.5 hours. The railway is designed with two tracks that will operate cargo wagons moving at 120 kilometer an hour and passenger trains going at the rate of 160 kilometer an hour.
