Iran Planning and Budget Organization and Tehran city council has agreed to purchase 630 wagons for Tehran subway, said the CEO of Tehran Urban & Suburban Railway Operation Company.

Ali Emam revealed details of the plan to purchase wagons for Tehran subway in an interview with Trend.

"The plan to purchase wagons for subway was approved by the government in 2017. In total, 2,000 wagons shall be provided for metro network in big cities including 1,050 wagons for Tehran subway," he noted.

"In the first phase, Municipalities and Village Administrations Organization was responsible to hold international tender to provide 630 out of those 1,050 wagons. In February 2018, a consortium of Tehran Wagon Manufacturing Co and two Chinese companies namely CRC and Norinco Group, was announced the winner," he said.

"Although it was agreed that the government will finance the project, the problems related to the sanctions delayed the contract implementation. The Planning and Budget Organization has not confirmed the contract yet," he added.

"The Central Bank of Iran should inform China that the project is to be completed as part of projects that are financed by Iran and China. The predicted price in the contract is €780 million for 630 aluminum wagons," he noted.

The meeting between Head of Iran Planning and Budget Organization Mohamad Bagher Nobakhtm with officials of Tehran city council, the Mayor and its deputies was held on August 28. Following the meeting, a decision to buy 630 wagons for Tehran metro was made.
